Re: PayPal, the Dog Park, & the STDOA One of the great regrets of my life was that we were never able to quite see our way through to set up a Donate Button with PayPal. We were there. I had them on the phone. I had the last bank statement in my hand, had it scanned and sent. And then were told we had to provide the number of our Charitable Organization, including a scan of the Certificate. That was in the works. By the time the number came in a few months later, the bank statement was outdated, there were a million other fires to put out, and things got put off. Stuff happened. I wanted to try again when I knew we were moving to Atlantic Canada, but as you can imagine there were other things to do. It was overwhelming. A PayPal Donate Button is different than getting a PayPal account for your business, shop, or online store. They are very, very careful about that to protect people against scam artists and the like. Not easy, a lot of steps to go through. There also needs to be a PayPal button to be able to buy stuff online, to maintain an online store. We had all kinds of stuff to sell, including stuff that was donated. T-shirts, decals, tattoos, you name it. In addition to that, an accurate email mailing list needs to be maintained, to notify people of meetings and other upcoming events, but not used so often that people get sick of seeing the notices in their inbox. The way I see it, heres what needs to happen, and soon: Somebody needs to step up to the plate and run this damn website. Ive taken it as far as I can. Im in another Province, halfway across the country. It needs someone local who has an eye and ear as to whats going on, and someone who doesnt have an agenda. I tried to make it a portal to good information, with limited success, not make it cutesy (lots of that already on FB), and it has basically paid off: we still have over 2000 people per month going to it. Thats currently 2000 people per month who would see a PayPal Donate Button, IF someone has the time to go through all the steps to make it happen. I dont. Someone also needs to step up to the plate and be the responsible contact person for the hosting account and domain name. That means your email and credit card number on the account instead of mine. I cant do it anymore. Ive paid all I can, no more. If no one steps up, it dies. Ive shelled out for the last 4 years for the domain name ($20 per year), and for last years hosting fees. Currently, $119.40 USD is due before this March 15 for hosting to March 2015. BTW--there is a whole email setup with our hosting account. Theres all kinds of things there, but I wont get into them now. Right now it seems to me youve got only a couple of people stretched to the limit trying to do the work of 10 people. And all this while trying to get a 2nd Dog Park going to improve everyones life. If you cant see your way to run a website from home, or do the email (which is provided with the hosting account), or back the website financially till things get straighten out, or think about one of the Official positions in the organization, or even if you arent a joiner (neither am I), then at least shove a few bucks in that donation box once in a while so that those who are going to lay their time on the line have something to work with. Anyway, my two cents. Thanks for listening. Cheers.
