Re: Save the Date! Facebook Friends and Family: When I graduated from Tucker High School in 1972, there was no Facebook. Our social media was our Yearbook, and we signed its pages, rather than posting online comments. When I graduated from UGA in 1976, our social media consisted of hurriedly scrawled telephone numbers and addresses on scraps of rolling paper. :-) When I graduated from Woodrow Wilson College of Law in 1979, our social media was a business card with the word Esquire after our names (for those of us who passed the February Bar Exam). When I was handed my Woodrow Wilson diploma for my LLM in Taxation degree in 1987, our social media was photos of my father (who was my classmate), my sons and myself outside of Glenn Memorial Methodist Church on the campus of Emory University, where our commencement exercises took place. (And maybe a beer and a burger at nearby Manuels Tavern). Now, in 2014 (May 12, to be exact), I will be receiving my last degree (hopefully), from the Emory University School of Law: an LLM (master of laws) degree in general legal studies. And Facebook has finally been invented. On May 12, 2014, I will be 60 years and 24 days old (if I counted right, I didnt take any math courses this time). It would mean a lot to me if those of you whom Im connected to by either blood or oath would consider attending the diploma ceremony on the lawn in front of Emory Law School. Or, if youd like, you can come to the commencement ceremony for the entire university a little earlier that morning (8:00 a.m., I think) and hear Congressman John Lewis deliver the Commencement Address to the Class of 2014. And afterwards, you could all come with me as I look for a new lawyer job! The pleasure will be all mine, I assure you, as I reach the end of a (the?) long and winding road. xoxo
