Re: ‘The Dáil Lockout’ - Day of protest outside Dáil Éireann, Kildare Street, Dublin – Wednesday 18th September, 2013 - 5.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. Dear Friend, On the behalf of the Dublin and General Area Branch of the Independent Workers Union, I wish to inform you that the Branch has decided to support the proposed day of action which is taking place outside Dáil Éireann, Leinster House, Kildare Street on Wednesday the 18th September 2013 from 5.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. This day of action has been initiated by Tony Rochford, former anti-property tax hunger striker and social injustice campaigner, and will take place on the first day that the Dáil returns from its summer recess. In 2013, Tony Rochford spent 25 days on hunger strike in protest of the government banning him from working because he refused to pay the property tax. As part of this planned day of action, Hörður Torfason from Iceland, has been invited to come to Ireland to lend support and participate in a speaker’s tour. He is an actor/musician/activist who is credited with almost single-handedly inspiring the Icelandic revolution in 2008/2009 by refusing to leave the area outside the Icelandic Parliament until his questions were answered by politicians and his demands were met. As this is a non party-political event and if you have an hour or so to spare, please come along and lend your support against the government’s continued austerity measures.
