Re-imagining Disneys Polynesian Resort One of the original Walt Disney World on-site hotels, the Poly is undergoing an extensive renovation and returning to its original 1971 opening day name, Disneys Poynesian Village Resort. In the Great Ceremonial House, the refurbishment has already begun in several areas: The lobby - the large waterfall is being removed and the lobby decor is being reimagined to highlight the cultural elements of Polynesia and provide more expansive views. This work is expected to continue throughout 2014. For an easier check-in experience, be sure to take advantage of online check-in. The Neverland Club - this popular kids club has been closed since January, but is expected to re-open on June 17 with a new name: Club Disney. Captain Cooks Quick Service Venue - relocated in April to a temporary location in the Great Ceremonial House with modified operating hours and menu items. Expected to re-open in July or August. Trader Jacks - this merchandise location will close June 16. No word on whether it will re-open. Pool Area - The Nanea Volcano Pool and Slide will be closing for a lengthy refurbishment beginning July 26. It is not expected to re-open until early 2015. To compensate for the lack of a pool area, guests staying at the Poly will receive one (1) complimentary ticket for each member of their party to visit Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park during their stay. Dedicated transportation will be provided from the Polynesian to Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park. Poly guests will enter through a dedicated check-in point where they will receive their complimentary tickets and towels. The Polys quiet pool will remain open. In 2015, Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto lounge will be added, plus, work is being done to add Disney Vacation Club units to the resort.
