Re-posting this: I spent three months voluntarily in a residential mental health crisis facility in 2002-3. Three months was the limit allowed. During my time there, twice my left knee swelled up to twice its size and each time a long needle was thrust into my knee under the knee cap to extract that fluid. I used crutches to hobble about using just my right leg. The evening I had to leave was during the first week of January while a Lake Erie blizzard was blowing snow sideways. I had called a boarding house about 1/2 mile away a few days before to see about a room. A small room about 8 feet wide and 12 feet long with a single bed and a dresser. The owner told me he had no openings but might in a few days. When I left that mental health residential treatment facility I was bundled up with what warm clothes I had and a backpack with as much food and clothing I could stuff into it. Stumbling in the snow I managed to climb a block of a very steep street with falling only twice. I was despondent! I had no idea where I was going to sleep that night in that blizzard. Eventually reaching that boarding house, the Keller Inn, I luckily found the owner still there. He had not left for home yet. He had one open room on the third floor of that old midtown hotel that was now a cheap boarding house. That room saved my life.
