Re-watch: Ray Bradbury Theatre--episode, The Town Where No One Got Off (S01E04). Okay, potential Beavis and Butthead jokes aside, this was a story with a couple of wicked twists. You might see it coming, but it makes for a good tale nonetheless. The story: While traveling by train (VIA Rail!) aspirant writer Cogswell (Golblum) waxes poetis about small town life but is challenged by a cynical old salesman (Cec Linder) who says if he really liked small towns so much he should get off the train and stay in the next one (Alton, Ontario). Cogswell does just that. However, upon entering the town he finds locals hostile and that an old man (Ed McNamara) is following him. The man eventually catches up to Cogswell telling him that he has been waiting for him for twenty years.... Jeff Goldblum and Ed McNamara play really well off one another. Bradbury does quite a good job of starting this innocent enough but then dragging out the weirdness to make even just walking through the town a little suspenseful.... ....and, thats before the real story actually begins. But, no spoilers. The Ray Bradbury Theatre is usually a little rough around the edges and dated (c. 1986), but the stories can be quite good if youre a little forgiving (the openings are really, really cheesy, so you might want to skip ahead 1m30s to get into the story itself). You can watch this one online on YouTube in three parts; part one linked below.
