Re-watched one of my favorite trashy melodramas 1962s Walk on the Wild Side. Edward Dmytryk directs Nelson Algrens story about a man who travels to New Orleans to find the love of his life. Along the way he runs into Jane Fonda as a girl of the road. Anne Baxter is the Mexican owner outside of New Orleans and Barbara Stanwyck plays the lesbian madam of The Doll House, a high-end brothel. If you can get past the accents that Harvey and Baxter are doing, this is a really entertaining high octane drama. . Stanwyck steal the film (of course) with her hard as nails performance. She just sizzles with her love interest Capucine, the French artist she saved from the New York art scene. The real surprise watching it this time is how good Jane Fonda is in this early role. Normally Im not a fan but she actually creates a believable character in Kitty. It also has one of the best opening title sequences by Saul Bass and an Elmer Bernstein score that will stick in your head for days afterwards.
