Read Psalms 136:1 through 142:7 I pour out before him my complaint; before him I tell my trouble (Psalm 142:2). Most people would rather not hide in a cave from their enemy. The psalmist David didn’t prefer it, but he wrote Psalm 142 while in a cave feeling powerless and alone. David didn’t keep his feelings inside. He didn’t deny them. Through his methods of voicing his complaints by writing, praying, and singing, David poured them out. He didn’t hold them in. David told God his troubles. In verse 5, David began directing the conversation directly to God. But in the first four verses he released his emotions. He told God exactly how he felt. In reverence, David was still very honest. Complaints do not have to control a person. They do not have be the only things people talk about when they are hurt. By praying like David, complaints can be simple announcements released to the listening Father. When liberated from the cave of defeat, victory comes. Freedom awaits those who acknowledge God in the middle of their troubles. Thought for Today: No cave is hidden from God. No disaster is too big for God to rescue His people.
