Read an article that mentioned a Pew Research study (Pew is fairly well respected) that showed 30% of people get their news from Facebook. Ouch. Recently I read another article about the narrowing of our viewpoints. How we tend to seek out, read, share those things we already agree with. Most of us are likely to have like-minded friends on FB - that seems normal but ... are those the only folks we interact with? If the only voices we ever hear/read etc. are those we already agree with, then how will we grow and learn? I see so many links people share on FB and many of them I have never heard of. I typically dont click on any of them - often just time restraints or fear of some sort of virus will invade my computer if I click on an unknown link. My profile says I am typically conservative. But my most visited sites for news are NPR and the NY Times. One reason I do this is that they are comprehensive - they cover a lot of things. Another reason, linked back to the above comments, is they (in most minds) lean at least to the more liberal side of things. I hope this keeps me honest and somewhat objective. I do have certain viewpoints that are not going to change. But there are so many issues in our lives that are not absolutes, morally or otherwise. So I intend to keep reading stuff from the other side.
