Dear friends, We are delighted to update you on the progress of the Davidson – World ORT Science Summer School and to inform you that the program is going very well and students are thoroughly enjoying the schedule that has been provided. The morning lab projects at the Weizmann Institute are proving to be very engaging for the students, with positive feedback from mentors and students. The scientific proceedings of the Weizmann Institute will be officially published and available to download upon completion of the program. Last weekend, students visited the Sdeh Boker Field School in the Negev desert, which provided a unique Israeli experience away from the research laboratories of the Weizmann Institute. During this excursion, students studied desert survival skills and discovered interesting information about the local wildlife, ecology, geology and history. This learning was done through hands on activities such as nature hikes, wildlife observations. Students also visited the Ben Gurion house and learnt about his heritage. Students dined in a Bedouin pavilion, where they listened to the owner’s life story and experiences and they also visited the Ilan Ramon Visitors Center in Mizpe Ramon. At the end of the weekend trip, students gave presentations about their countries to each other and learnt more about their backgrounds. This week’s activities are looking to be just as exciting and enriching and have already begun with an Israeli night on Monday with Israeli dancing, a visit to Weizmann house and a movie night.
