Read & must share Three satellite cities being planned for re-settlement of Kashmiri Pandits Srinagar: NDA governments plan to resettle Kashmiri Pandits back in the Valley looks well on course after Centre asked state government to allot 16, 800 kanals of land in three districts for the development of 3 satellite cities. During a meeting between Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah, it was decided that three cities would be developed in 3 districts- Anantnag, Baramullah and Srinagar- to re-settle the displaced Pandits. The three cities will be high-tech and well equipped with all basic amenities. The cities would be designed for a population of 75,000 to 1,00,000 people. The cities will offer 2BHK flats and include several medical, engineering, degree colleges and schools. As per the news reports, each city will comprise of a medical college, two regional engineering colleges, four degree colleges and 12 schools. The cities will also have adequate security arrangements to ensure the security of the residents of these cities. Each city will also be armed with 12 police stations. The centre is also planning to provide financial support to Kashmiri Pandits willing to return to the Valley. According to the seven components of the existing package, the Centre would provide- -Housing assistance, -Transit accommodation, -Cash relief for a period of two years after their return to the Valley, -Student scholarships, -Employment in State government service, -Assistance to farmers and -Waiver of interest component of loans taken by Kashmiri Pandits before migration. The government already has a working rehabilitation program for re-settlement of Kashmiri Pandits. The plan includes, Rs. 7.5 lakh per family for purchase or reconstruction of fully or partially damaged houses and assistance of `2 lakh per family for dilapidated houses. As per the new plan, the Centre will substantially hike the relief package to Rs. 20 lakh. It is expected that it will also revise the existing relief of Rs. 1 lakh being provided to the farmers. The Centre is also planning to offer transit accommodation during the reconstruction of houses to people who are planning to return. As of now, the facility of transit accommodation is available at four places- Kulgam, Baramulla, Pulwama and Kupwara. In the past, 3,000 supernumery posts were created for Kashmiri Pandits by the previous government.
