Read my view The new Auto policy which commenced in July 2014 - TopicsExpress

Read my view The new Auto policy which commenced in July 2014 is a pure scam because the planned production of 23,000 vehicles between June and December 2014 implies an average monthly production of 3, 286 vehicles implying that assemblers should have produced 6, 672 vehicles by the end of July. Where are these vehicles? Can we ask the Nigerian Automotive Council this question? Ports figures indicate that Stallion (owners of Hyundai, Nissan, Volkswagen of Nigeria (VON), etc.) imported about 10, 000 vehicles between January and June 2014 compared to about 3, 000 vehicles imported between January and 2013 (233 per cent increase); the highest rate of any importer in the year. In addition, Stallion’s 2013 full year imports of about 8, 000 units compared to the 2014 half year unit of over 10, 000 units (of which Hyundai 2014 half year import is 6, 500 and 2013 full year import was 4, 000; their Nissan 2014 half year import is 2,700 and 2013 full year import was 2,300) implies that Stallion has enough stock to last them till 2015. Now, if you are manufacturing locally, why import so much at the commencement or just before the commencement of the policy. My opinion is that you cannot start from the top to transfer technology. First, you need to stabilise power and invest in infrastructure, roads, airports and the like. Try and reinforce the school system to produce the right calibre of students to be able to train along that line. It is not something that just happens by policy fiat; you have to build block by block. “Countries that go to the moon today did not just start by going to the moon, they started by looking at the kind of aircrafts required stage by stage. You build up technology, you do not start from the top. You want start to make cars when you do not even have the power required to fire your furnace to make the basic parts of the cars; it does not make sense. There are no subsidiary companies to support cars; Dunlop for example is no longer there. You do not have companies making tyres. All of these flow into making the vehicles. And they also have multiplier effects on the economy. You do not start importing tyres and vehicle parts from China to come and couple in Nigeria and say you are making cars. Is that how they make cars? So at the policy assessment level, they should have realised that each level of development fits to the next level. I really dont know how GEJ has affected you positively but all I want you to do is to define what SUCCESS is! Our so called President said hes been successful in areas of transportation and Agriculture Transportation: Im sure most of us have been to the international Airport lately, kindly compare it with the country you came in from. Im also sure we all know we cant transport ourselves from Lagos to Benin by Train! Please where is the success coming from. Agriculture: Apple is being imported to this country, Rice is also not left out! SUCCESS is what he said he is in these areas! God bless all!
