Read the Declaration of Independence. Government is supposed - TopicsExpress

Read the Declaration of Independence. Government is supposed to be dependent on the People who are in control of the government. Those that serve in our stead are there because there are too many of us spread over too large of an area to run the country in person. We supposedly elect people that we know and about whom we know everything including how they will behave while standing in for us as our representatives, voicing our concerns and voting for the changes we want. No where are those elected as our public servants given the authority to do what they think should be done, only what a majority of us tell them we want done. When someone we have elected appears to be thinking on their own or espouses party rhetoric instead of following our expressed needs, we must warn them, in large, loud numbers that if they dont get back in line with us they are out of there. We can petition the governor of our state to recall them and hold a special election to replace them before their official term has ended. We must insure that no-one serves more than one term. Nowhere in the Constitution does it provide for anyone to serve more than one term. In fact, concerning the term for a Senator, the Constitution states in the Seventeenth Amendment that: The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote. The electors in each State shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the State legislatures. When vacancies happen in the representation of any State in the Senate, the executive authority of such State shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies: Provided, That the legislature of any State may empower the executive thereof to make temporary appointments until the people fill the vacancies by election as the legislature may direct. This amendment shall not be so construed as to affect the election or term of any Senator chosen before it becomes valid as part of the Constitution. The term of the President is defined by the twenty-second amendment to the Constitution which states (in part) that: Section 1. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of President more than once. But.... If the Framers/Founders had intended for Senators and Representatives to serve more than one term there would be provisions for that included in the Constitution. There are none. Thus, we must not elect Senators and Representatives for more than one term. Once they have served, they need to return to their homes and take up their lives where they were left off at the time they were sworn into office.
