Read Cross Vs Mayor Evasco When that REd Cross politician former senator called a Boholano mayor a liar and politicking the relief operation, I took it very personal. RC said they are independent and should deal directly wit victims. Here is what I can say. Republic Act 10072, or the Philippine Red Cross Charter (Philippine Red Cross Act of 2009) states that: the purposes of the Philippine Red Cross are as follows, a) cooperate with public authorities...in the mitigation of human suffering, b) to organize, in liaison with public authorities, emergency relief operations. If the RC does not have a copy of their own charter, I can email it to them. Or if they have not read it, I humbly suggest they do so, understand it fully first, before they invoke their independence. Your Charter says: COOPERATE and LIAISE with public authorities. The Philippine Red Cross requested the Commission on Elections (Comelec) that they allow the PRC to take over the entire distribution of aid to the residents of earthquake-hit Bohol. The Comelec rejected the request saying the PRC does not have the manpower to do it. Good job Comelec. PRC read your Charter and learn. You cant just takeover, you need to work with the local authorities. Oh all high and mighty RC, please go down from your pedestal and work with our local leaders. Comelec said the Philippine Red Cross sent them a letter asking that the national government turn over to the Philippine Red Cross all public funds and publicly funded relief goods meant for Bohol. What? If you read the Charter of the Philippine Red Cross, they are not authorized to do that, ask the national government to turn over public funds to them. The Philippine Red Cross Act of 2009 mandates the Philippine Red Cross to cooperate and liaise with public authorities. Not take over and control public funds. Good thing the Comelec said no. Mayor Evasco is doing what he thinks is right for his constituents. His intention is to make the distribution organized that it would reach every family in Maribojoc. Red cross is the biggest disaster organization in the country so i guess at least that, he sees to it that there is fair distribution.
