Read this article and THEN please comment. We all know what our emotions and feelings are, but I would love to start a thread about what can be done to constructively keep the MET alive and vibrant, serve the art form, honor its superb employees (union AND non-union, the latter of whom bear a lot of the brunt of keeping the place going without proper compensation), and also making opera at the Met and in New York affordable. As this article points out, there is vibrant opera elsewhere with audiences buying tickets and being engaged and challenged, if not always soothed. But that is OK. Serious art is meant to move us from our comfort zones. But we New Yorkers and everyone who loves the Met and knows what it means to opera must make our voices heard clearly, loudly, lucidly but not stridently. theguardian/music/2014/jun/06/new-york-met-opera-house-edge-precipice
