Read this pathetic article by the Fiji Sun on PNGs back stabbing and cheque book diplomacy hog wash. Was in relation to Dame Meg Taylors appointment to the SG post at Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat. It seems the writer lacks the appreciation that Dame Meg is a class act. A founding mother that constructed our country, posted many years in a time the US was the only super power and boss meri of the Ombudsman of the World Bank and IFC. The latter was a tough run as she mediated and heard deals gone sour on world bank and IFC projects. These posts dwarf her persona. A power house intellectual that advances the interest of not the institution she serves but the greater cause of the people she serves. Her vote was not bought out, she won on merit. It seems the Fijians forget who was by there side when the whole world turned their backs on them. Somare ensured the door was open for Frank and even as recent as last year, we were the only nation to invest substantive amounts of money for their electoral process. The writer also has little appreciation on international diplomacy. Every Leaders meeting development partners dish out millions for the sake of supporting foreign policy agendas they have. Australia: Asylum Seekers, One China Policy, etc... No brainer, weve got resources and weve opted to use them to advance our interest. Far to long Fiji, Solomon Islands have become accustomed for PNG to support them in whatever they wanted. Time to grow up. MSG Solidarity they remark.. what about the dispute with Solomon Islands and Fiji on airline routes. Fiji has crippled SI Air by banning direct flights, even transit passengers from Air Niugini on route to Fiji. No bullying there, no its the Fiji Exceptionalism. Dame Meg got in on her own merit and as for Jimmy and Kaliopate, perhaps investing your time in the building of your countries is a sensible option.
