Read what the pilots are planning, then think about your personal approach and our classifications approach regarding compensation. Does the direct relationship look smart or does the pilots approach using a union look smart? In the leaflet below, the pilot points out that we have to realize the hourly pay and total compensation are not the same thing. Its about our W2, not our hourly rate. Currently the company plays a shell game with our wages. They took our OSLs, short hours, line pay etc and swapped it out for a base wage bump. They took a percentage of our profit sharing and offset it with a base wage bump. They increased our medical and exchanged it for a base wage bump. While the base wage bumps are nice, the offsets applied each time eat away at our total compensation. We need to wise up. The company finds ways to present pay increases while continuing to minimize their total labor expense. Understanding this will help you realize why the company prefers a direct relationship instead of union representation.
