Reader question: Im about 6-7 weeks pregnant with our second baby and am considering my health care options. We had a natural hospital birth with our first. The birth went very well, but I dont know if I want to deal with all the prenatal visits. It all seemed so over-the-top last time around... especially their obsession with weight gain. I gained 27 pounds at apparently all the standard deadlines but they were insane about it. Weve considered finding a midwife, but our insurance is not all that clear about it. So I suppose Ill be back with the medical office as last time. Is there a way to be seen less often? Does anyone know more about how many prenatal visits are required or how to space them out a bit more? Thanks for any help!
