Reader question: My sons pediatrician is really pushing for us - TopicsExpress

Reader question: My sons pediatrician is really pushing for us to give my son Pediasure and lots of bread to make him gain weight. He has completely fallen off his growth curve, was always average until he started crawling then has hardly gained. He was 7 lbs 15 at birth, 17 lbs by 5 months and now only 20 lbs 4 oz at 15 months. He was exclusively breastfed for 6 months, then we added in baby led weaning. He loves to eat, and always chooses fruits and veggies over junk food even when we offer. He still nurses about a half dozen times a day, sometimes more, espcially when teething. He refuses cows milk and coconut milk and he throws up almond milk. I figured since we still nurse it wasnt an issue but pedi disagreed. We give my son lots of avocado and use coconut oil when cooking so he gets healthy fats. My husband is very thin no matter what he eats and is technically underweight. So is his brother and father so I feel like maybe my son is just taking after them. Dr kept saying I need to make him gain weight with the pediasure. We bought some last night but the main ingredients are seriously sugar and canola oil not to mention all the additives. I cant believe this will make my son healthier. Other than his weight, he is meeting and exceeding all his milestones, never had more than the sniffles. He is super active and runs and climbs every where. My instincts are that he is just thin but I feel very insecure because everyone puts me down for wanting to eat less processed foods. Not really sure what to do about the pediasure or his weight.
