Reading a book (hate the guy who wrote the forward, the rest is good). Its worth reading. But man its hard. The part where the Sonderkommando writes their manifesto of what they were forced to do, and is preparing to hide it in a Recamier to be sent to the SS officers house in Mannheim? This is brutal - because this is the one sonderkommando that actually rebelled and blew up one of the crematoriums. Im reading this, knowing they are doomed whatever they do. Its a good book, its worth reading. And the guy who wrote it managed to bribe an officer and save his wife and daughter (he wrote his memoirs of life as a pathologist/doctor/prisoner in the camps (under Mengele, can you imagine?), then died of a heart attack shortly after. I know this is going to end badly, but its still riveting. The fact that such a powerful writer, and truly good person, had to live through this, and died so young, leaving only this one piece of writing. Its horribly sad. Sorry to be such a downer.
