Reading a wonderful book I bought at the monastery yesterday (I could have purchased dozens and settled on one!) on the theology of poetry, or God and the poetics of everyday life. It was one of my favorite theologians, Von Balthasar (Swiss, of course), who wrote of the way that Truth and Beauty arouse delight in us because they are founded in the depths of reality, in the divine Beauty. But the author of this book, a Reformed theolog, has said it this way: "Creation itself, Paul says, yearns for the revelation of this new country for which we all long--which is "a place for whole men and women." But Scripture also insists that it is This country. And this, after all, is the final secret of poetic theology: to have eyes to see through this country to the place where this is space and light enough, where we will love in God." -William A. Dryness, Poetic Theology. Grant us these eyes, O God.
