Reading and drinking tea at the lodge bar....Giovanni Frazettos chapter: Empathy: The Truth Behind the Curtains is fascinating. He makes references to Eleonora Duse, Daniel Day Lewis and the techniques taught by Constatin Alexeyev (Stanislavsky). p158: ....In theatre, when we think actors are conveying emotions naturally they are actually conveying those emotions in the most unatural way. When we believe they are showing us moments of great truth and utmost authenticity, they are outstandingly pretending. They are creating moments of great deceiving fiction. On stage, truth and falsehood occur simulateously, each a disguise of the other. Stanislavsky said: A sense of truth contains within itself a sense of what is untrue aswell. He discusses the audience - actor interactions and how the brain distinguishes between fact and fiction in he context of neural networks. p162:...Basically if something is relevant for you, it doesnt matter if it is objectively real or fictional, it will be real for you, in your mind.. [Fazetto (2013) How we feel. What neuroscience can - and cant - tell us about our emotions.] ................ Food for thought. If it is real in your mind you can relive the experience and associated emotions. A moth the size of a sparrow flutters about. Hopefully it will not land on my salad - or it will cover it completely....The deceptive nature of the act is both enticing and saddening at once. The escape and salvation one encouters while clutching at thin air and sharing figments of the imagination are short-lived. I am left craving for more.
