Reading between the lines, watching the reactions, not just this - TopicsExpress

Reading between the lines, watching the reactions, not just this past week but since the Wis. game, I think everyone knew this was coming. Flash back a year ago, same type of season, expected wins and embarrassing losses. The season ends with a 21 pt home loss to Iowa. I worked that day and listened to the game on the radio. Bo, during the post game interviews, dares the higher ups to fire him. I continued listening to the post game call in show Big Red Reaction. Most of those that called in, along with the guys doing the show(one a former husker), believed that Bo was done. The loss, coupled with his reaction(some of which should have but was not bleeped out) led many to believe the writing was on the wall. Instead, Eickhorst came out the next day with a vote of confidence and extends Bos contract. He also increases the recruiting budget, etc to help us be more competitive with top teams. The rest of this is speculation. Surprising as this may be, I was not invited to Bo and Seans meeting last year. Yes, I am still deeply disturbed by that. Here is what I believe was said. Bo we are going to stick with you. Sticking with you, though, comes with a few requirements. You have to show progress. We have to be competitive against the better teams. We have to be past the same mistakes, meltdowns that seem to reoccur when we get to those games. I believe that meeting came with a set of requirements laid out for Bo to keep his job. Notice Bos reaction after the Wis. loss. No dare you to fire me rants, nothing like last year. Yes, I believe some of this was learning from his mistakes. He did say this, though, if this(his record) isnt good enough they will have to go a different direction. I think he knew. Lots of attacks on Eickhorst. I am sure he knew they were coming. He came, as Bo also was quoted when he was hired, to win championships. What I have read is that he(Eickhorst) has his ducks in a row before making difficult decisions. No doubt this would have been an easier, more warranted decision last year. He could have went with his emotions, after being dared, went ahead and did it last year. No doubt he would have caught far less flack. Looking at the big picture, I think he decided to set down, lay out the expectations, and it appears he gave Bo the chance to meet them. Yes, we can argue whether it was ample time or not, but the decision has been made. Is Eickhorst a man of integrity, character, etc. A good boss? Time will tell. He had a tough decision, he made it, as a Husker I feel he too deserves the chance to prove that his intentions were pure. Who am I to judge? The evidence, to me, suggests this was not an easy decision for him.
