Reading novels - back in 2002, Silberstein Librarian Dawn - TopicsExpress

Reading novels - back in 2002, Silberstein Librarian Dawn Kraayvanger got me started reading the Patricia Cornwell novels featuring Medical Examiner Kay Scarpetti. Ive read them all and thought they were good - a bit more sophisticated than the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum books, which I also enjoy. The Ferris library had Cornwells latest, Dust. A week and a half ago, I checked it out and tried reading it. Each night I could only get through a few paragraphs before I had to put the book aside and go to sleep. This is unusual for me because I typically can speed read a novel in a day. Thursday at the library I checked out a Lisa Gardner novel and a Jack Higgins novel. Read them both - couldnt put them down. So, today returned those two and the Cornwell. Just not going to finish Dust. In my opinion, it is not at all up to the usual standards of the writer. Almost as though she decided she needed some money, so why not just throw together a book. Ill have to check out the reviews. The Gardner was my first read of her books and she actually had two plot errors, but the rest of the book was so good, I will read more. In a suspense novel that is so complicated, I imagine it is hard to think of EVERYTHING. Ive always loved Jack Higgins books. He writes a lot like Ludlum, who wrote the Jason Bourne novels. My favorite Higgins is The Eagle Has Landed. It is so nice to have a wonderful local library and also to have a librarian friend who can suggest good books!!
