Reading the FB post about the Lady Raiders success in the Western - TopicsExpress

Reading the FB post about the Lady Raiders success in the Western Mass tournament has got me thinking about this article: The Lady Senators Field Hockey team will never ever have the feeling of experiencing tournament play past the 1st or 2nd round. Nor will there parents. Unlike Kit Rosen of Longmeadow and her team mates, the boys that play for Mahar are average at best. For one of them to find a starting job anywhere on the team would be and has been difficult for any boy over the past 4 years. There mere presents on the team moves these girls into the top tier division 1 bracket of the tournament, after competing in there own division 2 bracket during the regular season. Some might think this is a challenge and good for them to experience! I as a parent of one of these girls, disagree with this philosophy whole heartily. Boys on this team are robbing 12-13 of these girls, not only playing time but success in what they should be playing for right from the beginning >>>a Western Mass division 2 title! High school sports are much different than club sports. High school sports are about a town with limited access to talent. That’s why there are divisions. These laws were made for the talent that Longmeadow ran up against and not the norm as in Mahar’s case. Mahar has had primarily a boy at the goalie position and this moves them up a division. That being said, check out these stats over the past 2 years. The girls have 439 shots on goal, 12 shot average per game, scored 156 goals for a 5.8 goals a game average in 37 games. The goalie‘s on the team have stopped 217 shots for an average of 5.8 and let by 57 goals, in the same 37 games. This stat just proves that the girls are not allowing the shots and when the other teams do get a shot off 1 out of every 4 is a goal! Moving them up and robbing the girls of what should be there goal of a Division 2 Western Mass Title, is wrong and injustice. Is there anyone out there that could change my mind! I need help dealing with this! They have definitely had the talent to compete in the division 2 tournament over the past 4 years without the boys! They are being screwed out of a chance to compete! Ive said it, Im done, I feel better. Now I can try and get over it! Go Lady Raiders!!!!
