Reading the IRISH INDO there and it got me thinking...then annoyed...it says... The GAA and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade have announced a €5m redevelopment of the home of London GAA, Ruislip. The redevelopment will begin in September 2014 and it will be concluded in time for Londons Connacht Championship opener in May 2015. The work will see the construction of a new stand – centrally covered with a 3,900 capacity, terracing on the opposite side of the ground, new medical and training facilities as well as floodlights and it will leave the facility fully enclosed bringing it to the level of county standard facilities across Ireland. --ahem...except Tuam that is lads! My question is: This new 3,900 capacity facility will see 1,or possibly 2 County games a year...so does that justify the investment? Look before ye start we know there are loads of ex-pats and its good for the GAA development etc etc and I am ALL FOR them getting a few quid from the GAA and our Government ---BUT 5m from the GAA for London and not a stob from them --or Galway County Board to improve Tuam ..even to bring it up to BASIC standards EXPECTED by players and the public alike? In relation to the state of the toilets down there in Tuam Stadium when us lads have to pee up against an old brick wall...if I dont provide the PUBLIC with basic and modern(to a point) toilet facilities in my pub the HSE will come down on me like a tonne of bricks and write to me DEMANDING I upgrade/improve them on health and safety grounds. I have to comply--or Im in trouble! So WHY when the County Board refuse to spend the miserable few quid to upgrade the toilets and the dressing room facilities for our NON PAID County Players and the public --do THEY not get a letter from the HSE in relation to quality? Should we not demand a better quality of facilities for ourselves, families and players. Surely if the County Board decided to sacrifice a couple of the game gates this money would solve this immediate issue-- and then we can concentrate on the bigger picture...ie upgrading and re-instating Tuam Stadium to be Galways Premier GAA venue.
