Reading the Story on the Standard about the sufferings Non Somali - TopicsExpress

Reading the Story on the Standard about the sufferings Non Somali Teachers in North Eastern I feel that is is time that Kenyans confronted some sensitive issues that have been swept under the Carpet for far too long. South Africa only managed to tackle Xenophobia after they admitted that there was a problem, and started dialogue on ways to tackle it. In Kenya the Somali Community has a big big problem when it comes to treating non Somalis in their midsts. The Problem takes both Ethnic and Religious angles where non Muslims are treated as third class Citizens in Somali Dominated areas. Let us stop hiding our heads in the sand and understand the pain the Christian Teachers go through in the Somali Dominated areas. Let the Somali leaders admit that- yes there is a problem let the Muslim leaders admit that there is problem. Let them come up with systems of curbing the Ethnic and Religious Discrimination in Somali dominated areas. We all want to live in a peaceful Kenya where anyone can work and live anywhere. But Let us top the pretence and seek ways of tackling the sufferings non Somalis and non Muslims go through in areas where they are minorities. Those teachers are not mad to give up on salaries a a time when jobs are hard to come by. Let us not hide under terms like hatespeech to perpetuate injustice on Christians that work in Muslim and Somali dominated areas. Le us seek solutions, instead of pretending that problems do not exist.
