Reading the archived newspaper of the Roundup Record Tribune from Thursday, February 12, 1948 “We are now on the second round of measles at our house, the baby having just come down with the scourge. A survey of our many advisers and well wishers indicates that there are almost as many remedies for measles as here are for the common cold. Everything from brandy to castor oil has been recommended to us for internal dosing, and everything from goose grease to soda water for external usage. The main gist of the advice, however, has been that you’ve got to do something to “bring out the measles.” Our doctor, however, takes a philosophical view of this, seemingly being convinced that the measles will “come out” of their own accord. He has simply prescribed a dark room, an occasional aspirin and the natural course of nature and measles. Doctors really new their stuff back then...
