Reading through the Feminist Spirituality/Goddess Movement - TopicsExpress

Reading through the Feminist Spirituality/Goddess Movement literature is a very cautionary experience for Black Liberation Scholars like myself: In combating White Supremacy we cannot - nay MUST NOT - artificially construct a counter-narrative that, while empowering, is demonstrably false or sloppily put together. By doing so, we give the oppressive and flawed reigning narrative, in this case White Supremacy, an easy kill and this sets out Black empowerment efforts back tremendously. This is precisely the situation that the Matriarchal Mother Goddess advocates find themselves in today. Western (=Northern Cradle) Patriarchy IZ oppressive, abusive, and horribly misogynistic. Its overthrow - politically, socially, economically, and ideologically - is absolutely necessary in order to liberate Women worldwide. However, the flimisly put together and demonstrably errant counter-narrative of the prehistoric Matriarchal Mother Goddess and her universal rule is not at all helpful to that cause. Its counter-productive because its an easy kill, if you will. We Black Liberation Scholars are on notice too. Let us not exaggerate; not romanticize; not over state the case; not build a Black House of Cards atop a Tower of Sand, and use such a flimsy edifice to empower our people. If we do, the inevitable fall of that house/tower can have significant pyscho-social consequences for our people.
