Readings and reflections for the 2nd Sunday in Lent, 3/16 - Genesis 12:1-4a; Psalm 121; Romans 4:1-5, 13-17; John 3:1-17 During Lent we hear Paul make various distinctions between the Law and the love of God revealed in Christ and what those mean for our liberation from what enslaves us. Jesus is talking about the same thing when he says we need to be born “from above” or “of the Spirit” to enter into the kingdom of heaven. The 11th century Sufi poet Rumi similarly says: “Out beyond ideas of wrong doing and right doing there is a field. I’ll meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass the world is too full to talk about. Ideas, language, even the phrase ‘each other’ doesnt make any sense” Shall we head in that direction even though the route passes through Golgatha?
