Readings of the Mass 1st reading : The Lord comes to his temple to cleanse us ( Ml 3 , 1-4) Reading the book of Malachi Thus saith the Lord God : Behold, I send my messenger , who will prepare the way before me , and suddenly come to his temple the Lord whom you seek . The messenger of the covenant that you desire, behold, he cometh, saith the Lord of the universe. Who can endure the day of His coming? Who can stand when he show ? For he is like a refiners fire , like laundry whiteners . It will install to melt and purify . He shall purify the son of Levi, and refine them like gold and silver : and they may, in the eyes of the Lord, present the offering in fairness . Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will welcome the Lord, as it was in the days of old, in former years . Psalm (Ps 24 , 7.8.9.10 ) R / Glory to the Christ of God , glory to the Lord sent . Doors, Lift up your heads , Grow up, ye everlasting doors : that between the King of glory ! Who is this King of glory? It is the Lord , strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle . Doors, Lift up your heads , lift them up, ye everlasting doors : that between the King of glory ! Who is this King of glory? It is the Lord , the God of the universe; he is the King of glory. 2nd reading : The priest at all like us ( Heb 2: 14-18) Read the letter to the Hebrews Since all men have a kind of flesh and blood, Jesus wanted to share this human condition and , by his death , he was able to smother him who had the power of death, that is, ie the devil, and free those who through fear of death, spent their entire lives in a situation of slaves. For those that come to help , they are not angels, they are the son of Abraham. It was just a religious man , who was waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. The Spirit had told him he would not see death before he had seen the Lords Christ . Driven by the Spirit, Simeon came into the temple . The parents brought in the child Jesus to perform the custom of the law that concerned . Simeon took the child in his arms, and blessed God, saying : Now, Master , you may let your servant depart in peace, according to thy word . For mine eyes have seen thy salvation , thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples : light to lighten the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel . »] The father and mother of the child were astonished at what was said about him. Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, Behold, your son is there for the fall and rising of many in Israel. It will be a sign of division. - And you yourself , your heart will be pierced by a sword. - As will be revealed the secret thoughts of many . There was a woman who was a prophet , Anna the daughter of Phanuel , of the tribe of Asher . Left a widow after seven years of marriage, she had reached the age of eighty -four. She did not left the Temple , serving God night and day with fasting and prayer. Approaching them at that time , it proclaimed the praises of God and spoke about the child to all who looked for redemption in Jerusalem. When they had fulfilled all that laid the law of the Lord , they returned into Galilee, to their city Nazareth.
