Ready, Set, RENEW! ONLINE PORTAL DOES NOT OPEN TILL OCTOBER 8TH It’s time again to start thinking about license renewal. The Ohio State Board of Cosmetology is preparing to kick-off the 2015 renewal season on October8, 2014. Watch your mail… In October the Board will begin mailing out renewal information to all licensees. This information will come in the form of a mailer titled “Important Renewal Information Enclosed”. The mailer will contain the licensee’s username and password as well as information on the renewal website, information line, and renewal instructions. Does the Board have your correct address? With renewal season fast approaching take a minute to make certain the Board has your correct address information. If you moved and did not notify the Board directly with your change of address, it’s time to take that step. Submitting a change of address form to the post office will only stay in place approximately 30-60 days. After that period, most mail is returned to sender. Many licensees learned this the hard way during the last renewal when they did not receive their renewal information or even their license. There are many ways to update your address with the Board, choose one that works best for you. Visit us online (user name and password required) htts://license.ohio.gov Select “Update Address Information” Enter User Name and Password Select “Address Change” Update “Credential Mail Address” and “Main” Fax: 614-644-6880 or Email: [email protected] Be sure to include the following: Name and Board ID # Updated address Current phone number Email Call (614) 466-3834and speak to a customer services representative. Are you set for the renewal process? Ask yourself these questions… Where can I find my User Name and Password? Go to the following link: https://license.ohio.gov/lookup/password.asp Select Cosmetology Board, enter your Last Name, First Name and the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number, and then click search. This search does not allow you to search for the User ID and Password for a Salon or Tanning Facility, but will allow you to search for any personal licenses including Instructors and Independent Contractors. Did I complete the continuing education (CE) required for my license renewal? Remember there are eight (8) hours of CE required per license. This means if you hold more than one license 8 hours are required for each. Do I have the “certificate(s) of completion” from the CE classes taken? It is the responsibility of the licensee to retain “certificates of completion” from all CE classes taken. Be sure to locate certificates and check to see that they equal the appropriate amount of hours. If you cannot locate your certificates, contact the provider where you took the class for a replacement. The Board will not have this information. Do I have an Independent Contractors (IC) license? If you practice a branch of cosmetology at a salon where you rent space you are required to hold an IC license. Continuing Education is not required for this renewal but it will be effective February 1, 2015 for the next renewal. Do I have an Instructors license? • If you hold an instructors license be aware that the CE requirement is eight (8) hours of “Instructor Only” continuing education classes. These classes must have a curriculum on the subject of teaching and cannot be in combination with other scope of practice material. An Instructor’s license is not considered an initial license and therefore requires 8 hours of Instructional CE regardless of when you obtained your Instructor’s license. RENEW!
