Ready for a Bert Rant? Price shopping. I see it EVERYWHERE. And despite what you think, its not always a good thing. I think I have it figured out thoughas simply as it can be, so here goes - Products & merchandise, if you shop for lowest price for these items, its usually easier to spot than if shopping for services. For instance, shopping for a Ford vehicle is easy cause you know that Fords are built to a standard. Theres a bare minimum you know to expect out of a vehicle that is constructed properly. But a service? You shop for the cheapest carpenter, plumber, auto mechanic, disc jockey, etc -- theres no telling WHAT kind of service youll get. There are hobbyists (who many times have no standards by which to judge their performance) who undercut the true professionals because the hobbyists neither have the skill, the training, the experience or tools to properly handle the job. So before you get on FB the next time and ask Whos got the lowest price on ___, please do yourself a favor and ask yourself what happens in the worst case scenario if the person you hire is a fly-by-nighter. (i.e. - cheap massage = permanently injured neck or spine; cheap carpenter = unsafe or unsound structure; etc.) There will ALWAYS be hobbyists, fly-by-nighters or bottom-feeders and there will ALWAYS be those too cheap to support anyone else. Consider why a person or business has a higher price. In the long run, maybe they are truly worth more.
