Ready for a long post? I wanted to write about make and takes. I’ve had several people ask some great questions about how to do them, what they cost, what to make, etc.. So, I thought we would address these great questions today. Let’s get to it! WHAT IS A MAKE AND TAKE? Simply put, it is a chance for people to open the bottles and try the oils. It’s a chance for them to see the benefits in a practical and tangible way. I mean, let’s face it, it’s all pretty overwhelming and intimidating when you start. WHERE DO YOU DO IT? A make and take class can take place in your home (I have hosted several), another WA’s home, a neutral location (maybe a church or school), or at a friend’s home that is interested in the oils. It’s really up to you where you would like to have it. DO YOU SAY ANYTHING DURING THE CLASS? I usually begin my class with an ABC of Essential Oils. You can choose the fly by method (you know, fly by the seat of your pants), write an outline, or use one of the tear pads. I won’t tell you what method I use. Ha I start off telling what essential oils are. Then I go into what makes doTERRA oils different. Finally, I talk about practical ways to use the oils in everyday life. I usually show my “Medicine Basket” with my rollers, salves, etc. I make sure to provide several first hand stories about the benefits of using doTERRA, and take any questions. Then we move into the making part. As a general rule, I have already determined what items we were making, have supplies ready, and they have already paid for the class. (They pay at a welcome table when they enter and receive a name tag.) WHAT DO YOU MAKE? Here are some ideas to make for your class. Remember these tips; 1) If it’s quick and easy it is more likely to be used, 2) you need to work within your time contraints (be respectful of people’s time, they will remember that), 3) work within your budget and others’ budgets (make the class attainable for anyone to attend-these oils are not just for the elite, if they were, I wouldn’t be using them :) ), and 4) make something geared for the group your are teaching (no hot flash spritz spray for teenagers, you get the picture). Make and take theme ideas: - Medicine Cabinet Makeover - Spa/Body and/or Bath - Holidays (Christmas, Valentines, Mothers Day, etc) - Cleaning - Pregnancy/Birth Infants - First Aid - Seasonal (Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring) - Cooking (Main dishes, desserts, sides, snacks, salsa) Specific products to make: Allergy roller, peppermint cooling spray, focus blend, owie spray, stuffy nose, virus, sugar scrub, bath salts WHAT DOES THIS COST? Ok, this is where it gets tricky. ;) Not really, just basic addition and multiplication. Find out the cost of the supplies you need. If you are making 2 rollers and a spray, and there are 10 people coming, then you need 20 rollers and 10 spray bottles. You also need labels, FCO, and your EO. Im including a nifty little sheet for price per drop of oil, just multiply the number of drops by the amount per drop. Once you find your cost per person, decide what you will charge. It is not unreasonable to charge $15 dollars for a class making 3 items. But YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE COVERING YOUR COSTS! Unless you plan on doing this out of your own pocket to try and reach new people. Its up to you. Its your private business. Just be ethical! I realize we are only touching the surface, but maybe its a start. Feel free to post any questions, and I will try to answer to the best of my ability. :) I will post links in the comments for tear pads, bottles, sprayers, and FCO. The pics are from make and takes I have done with my team. Thanks for hanging with me on this long post. :)
