Ready to start the discussion on the article in yesterdays SF Weekly about the disappearance of gay bars in SF. Please explain to me exactly WHAT is a gay bar? Obviously, it isnt if it is gay owned, because so many good bars would have been cited (such as Shotwells and the bar where I work, Martunis, or even the whole Thieves collection, when Jeremy Sheets and David Blood ran the show). Obviously, it isnt if there is a high percentage of gay employees, either, because Willow and Sycamore werent included. Is the use of gay bar to suggest a place where the majority of the customers are openly gay? Where people do gay things? What exactly are we bemoaning in the article?
