Real Sociedad 0-0 Manchester United Manchester United missed a penalty and ended the game with ten men as they drew 0-0 with Real Sociedad in the Champions League. In the tenth minute United created the first opening, with Wayne Rooney laying off a Patrice Evra cross into the path of Shinji Kagawa, whose low shot was deflected wide. After a dull first period, Alberto De la Bella had Sociedads best chance on the stroke of half time when his drive whistled just wide of David De Geas goal. Ruben Pardo had the first effort of the second half but his shot was off target. Javier Hernandez then contrived to scoop the ball over the bar from six yards out after being set up Kagawa. In the 65th minute there was almost a brilliant opener for United as substitutes Ashley Young and Robin van Persie combined well, before the Dutchmans effort struck the woodwork. Five minutes later van Persies penalty hit the post after Markel Bergara was adjudged to have pulled Young back in the area. Real almost snatched it when the former Arsenal star Carlos Vela chested the ball just over the bar after United were caught out by the home teams quickly-taken 76th-minute corner. Uniteds frustration was highlighted when Marouane Fellaini was sent off in stoppage time after picking up a second yellow card.
