Real quick: When a person tells you of the death of their loved one, its very natural to want to know what happened. But its a selfish question—an insensitive one even. So please hold your Oh my God, what happened? If they want to share it, they will. Their job is not to oblige your curiosity by telling you the how, which you can do nothing about. Just know that paying respects and maybe mourning is in order. Its refreshing to people to NOT hear, Sorry to hear that, Sorry for your loss or Oh my God, what happened. Just be genuine, sincere and real. I still dont know how some of my friends loved ones passed. And I think theyre glad that I dont make them relive the tragedy by asking a question theyve been asked a million times. I know I said real quick—I thought it was gon be short.
