Real vs The Truth https://youtube/watch?v=-stvNtP74_g When I was 15, watching def poetry jam videos on YouTube introduced me a tool that would send shivers down my spine & show me a way out/up. I can trace back my current ambitions to seeds planted by orators who commanded those stages with authority and told our stories. Two years or so of watching about 3 hours of spoken word a day, and I began to write. I was excited to contribute my stories to this beautiful legacy. At the same time, I learned our stories, critical thought, self-esteem, history. These storytellers felt like the missing link between my 10th generation canadian reality and my ancestry. A lot of people take knowing their full history and ancestry for granted. Anyways, full circle moment of the day: listening, again. Remembering why I even began this journey. Giving thanks for how far beyond that desolate place it has taken me. Looking, like a child at the future, at how far there still is to go. :)
