Really, really up against it last night at a charity fund-raiser - TopicsExpress

Really, really up against it last night at a charity fund-raiser at Harraby Catholic Club, Carlisle sharing the stage with none other than the legendary Perfect Scoundrels (aka Jonathan Cairns - 40 years on the circuit ... & Sharon Day) and a PACKED TO THE RAFTERS roasting hot venue. First set went well (its always tough early doors being the opening act for a show), particularly the Micky Diamond dance version of Fields Of Athenrye which had everybody tapping their feet and clapping their hands. Then came Perfect Scoundrels and I must say the singing/comedy/cabaret duo went down an absolute storm entertaining for a full hour. How the hell am I going to keep this going and follow THAT? I remember saying to myself before my second set. Had to bring out the big guns such as Mustang Sally & Dark End Of The Street (The Commitments), You To Me Are Everything (The Real Thing), There Goes My First Love (The Drifters), plenty of Sixties stuff finishing with Frank Sinatras My Way and Youll Never Walk Alone (Gerry Marsden) to keep the crowds on their feet. Dare I be bold enough to say that despite my initial fears Micky Diamond may have actually taken the expectant revellers to another level? Certainly seemed so - as I opened my eyes after finishing an almighty & immensely powerful rendition of MY Way by Ol Blue Eyes ... the entire club including the Perfect Scoundrels duo and the doorman were on there feet clapping and clapping and clapping! The fantastic Geordie bloke Jonathan Cairns from the Perfect Scoundrels duo (aka Tubby Brown) actually walked right up to the stage to shake my hand and tell me that was brilliant Micky!! :) It just went on and on amidst cries of More! More!! More!!! They say artists work best when they are really up against it ... last night was up there with the best of the best as far as memorable gigs go. Congratulations to the lass who won the brand new car too ... had to laugh when the guy in Perfect Scoundrels said it was waiting for her at Michael Douglass Scrap Yard!! Great night with over £2000 raised for Carlisles Pennine Lodge!! Best compliment last night Ive got your Facebook contact and will be in touch ... it was a pleasure working with you Micky! Jonathan Cairns, Perfect Scoundrels. Now THATs a compliment! :) :) :)
