Really saddened by the Attack on satirical magazine which lead to 12 deaths yesterday in France The fact that twelve people are dead over cartoons is shameful This actually raises up a whole issue on censorship and freedom of speech and expression even in satirical materials which were meant for light humour. I am not defending the contents of the cartoon itself. It may be satire, but it is clearly racist, xenophobic and hateful. But then for those who claims they had it coming it and somewhat deserve to be shot need to re-examine themselves. No one deserves to be shot or killed over something they say no matter how stupid it may be. Freedom of speech is an important part of our society, and a right each and everyone of us should enjoy. Without it the society will never progress form a mold people in power may have set over us, but, it should always go without saying, free speech does not mean freedom from criticism. Criticism also shouldnt be confuse with hatred, and a clear dichotomy should be drawn between them. We are growing up in a world that is so politically correct that we always need to watch what was said as there will be someone somehow, no matter how remote he is,will be offended by whatever was said. The truth is, whatever we say, someone will always take offense to it no matter how pure our intentions are. Then we have this fear of speaking out due to political correctness and many times not addressing certain critical issues. We seem to be living in this hypersensitive and insecure world where people get insulted over a variety of statement which results in an angry n hateful reaction. But the fact is, Political Correctness and freedom of speech did not kill the twelve people at the Charlie Hebdo offices, it was HATE. And thats what we must watch out for even in our lives. In our practice of free speech, we must also open and allow ourselves to criticism but must clearly differentiate it and now let hate harbour in our hearts. If we are naive to think this will never happen in our shores, right now we actually see fragments of such incidents even though it may not have lead to a shooting...yet... edition.cnn/2015/01/07/europe/france-satire-magazine-gunfire/
