Really wanted to post something funny today, as I think our collective mood needs to be lightened. But I just cant. Theres just too much sickness in our society and incredible callousness among our people. As the father of a young Black man, I pray daily for his safety. Yes, weve had the talk on more than one occasion. My son has never been in trouble with the law, he has no babymamas, hes a homeowner, a taxpayer, a hard worker, college-educated, a Tae Kwon Do 2nd degree Black Belt and an high school All-State violinist. In short, hes a good man and a solid citizen. Not better than anyone, but certainly equal. But like his father, he doesnt have the complexion for the protection, as his pigmentation is all some need to see to make judgments about him. That puts him square in the crosshairs of law enforcement, citizen patriots with itchy trigger fingers, and most sadly, others who look like him. Not all police are bad. I have known plenty good ones. I appreciate their service and dont want to live in a society without law enforcement. And yes, sometimes the victims DO put themselves in bad situations by their actions. However, it appears that the responses quickly go to the extremes when dealing with us. We MUST have accountability on BOTH sides of the issue. The unequal justice and court-approved murder that we have witnessed recently should not continue to elicit an oh well reaction from polite society. It lets us know that polite society is anything but.
