Reaping Verse for Today: And I said to them, Each of you, get rid of the vile images you have set your eyes on, and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt. I am the Lord your God. But they rebelled against Me and would not listen to Me; they did not get rid of the vile images they had set their eyes on, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt. So I said I would pour out My wrath on them and spend My anger against them in Egypt. But for the sake of My name, I brought them out of Egypt. I did it to keep My name from being profaned in the eyes of the nations among whom they lived and in whose sight I had revealed myself to the Israelites. Ezekiel 7 to 9 ... the prophet relates Gods story of Israels continual reject, repent, renege actions since the day they were released from Egyptian bondage and verses 5 through 20 in the chapter detail the history. This piece from Ezekiel begins with the how God saved them despite Israels insistence on idol worship and vile practices of Egypt, where they were enslaved. He led them to the desert, the pathway to the Promised Land, but their ungrateful behavior and continued doubt angered God to the point of annihilating them; He saw, though, through Moses, that this behavior would show Him as a peevish God worthy of ridicule to all other nations. Rather than destroy His children, God set an example to arouse their attention - hence, a trek that may have taken only a few weeks time became a 40 year journey so the faithful would be the only arrivals to the land of milk and honey. In each ensuing downfall, Gods glorious patience is shown and we are all here today as a witness to His mercy!!
