Rear Admiral Eugene P. Wilkinson passed away at age 94...After leading a distinguished wartime career, serving on cruisers and submarines during World War II and Korea..., he was the first person to command....both the first Nuclear Submarine Nautilus...as its first commander....and the first nuclear powered surface ship...The Cruiser USS Long Beach ..as its first commanding officer...His successor, CDR Anderson led the Nautilus on its legendary crossing of the North Pole....The USS Enterprise was the first nuclear powered air craft carrier...but was launched after the Long Beach took to the open seas.....He was assigned to Nuclear Squadron One...the first all nuclear surface ship fleet...including the Aircraft Carrier USS Enterprise....
