Reasons for spreading the summer holidays over the year. 1. Kids get out of their routine which has a detrimental effect 2. Kids get bored, regardless of how much you try to entertain them, they basically miss their mates and the social side of school. 3. Holiday prices are unaffordable. 4. Some children dont eat properly. 5. For the rest of the year the longest a family is together, is two weeks, you only have to watch big brother to see the effects of being with the same group of people for a long period of time. 6. Some kids are pretty much left to their own devices for 6 weeks leading to neglect, crime, addiction etc. 7. Parents with mental illness are left to deal with kids alone without any help for 6 weeks. 8. No matter how frugal you are it costs a fortune and summer holidays leave many in debt. 9. Our climate is changing and warmer weather comes earlier in the year. 10. Difficulty in finding childcare can lead to unemployment. 11. The government is controlling how we spend our money and the fact that we are now charged for taking our kids on holiday in term time just gives the tourist trade free reign to charge whatever they want for holidays. This also segregates the rich from the poor, those who can, do and go where, and when they like, those that cant, well just cant! I could go on and on, I know there are some positives but in this day n age there should options available. I have the up most respect for teachers but it is the only profession that I know which gets an entire summer of leave. Feel free to comment I would be glad of the feedback as every parent I have spoken to is experiencing more than one of the above problems and I believe it should be debated. Xxx
