Reasons why policies must change No. 5 – They harm Australia and Australians Policies that limit the rights of a group within a society inevitably affect the broader society too. As the years go by, the negative effects of policies enacted since 2001 will increasingly be felt, not just by New Zealanders, but by Australians too. Some of these effects include: - diminished tax revenues due to Kiwi-born children being denied educational opportunities and thus being unable to maximise their career potential. - the Federal Public Service and Defence Force will miss out on many fine potential employees due to the inability of New Zealanders to gain Australian citizenship – in many cases the best person for the job will be excluded before the selection process even begins. - Australian children being raised in destitution due to an NZ citizen parents being ineligible for even basic social security support. - Australians being unable to receive appropriate support in times of serious illness as their NZ citizen family members do not qualify for carer support payments. - increased crime rates – it is inevitable that some New Zealanders denied both access to education and any form of social safety net will turn in desperation to crime as a means to support themselves. The list could go on.
