Tammy Ragusa | Published: Oct 24, 2014 photo by Henry McGee/Globe Photos The staff of Country Weekly sends its condolences to the family of Clark McEntire, who passed away Thursday (Oct. 23) in Colgate, Okla. On Friday morning, Reba posted about the loss on her Facebook page. “Daddy passed away last night in Colgate, Oklahoma at 11pm CST. He had been in the nursing home for for a while and we’re very thankful he is not suffering anymore. He was a born and bred cowboy through and through. He had been sick for 5 years. It makes total sense to me. He always told us kids never to run your horse to the barn. He was just taking his time to go on home.” Clark was the patriarch of the McEntire family, which includes his wife, Jacqueline, daughters Reba, Susie and Alice, and son Pake. He suffered a stroke in February 2011, which kept him in the hospital for several months. Reba shared the news of her induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame just two days prior to his slipping into a coma. Afterwards, she told Country Weekly, “All the things that you get to do, the awards and accolades you receive are sweet, but they’re so much sweeter when you share them with the people you love and the people who have supported you throughout your whole life and career. When I got my star in the Country Music Hall of Fame when it was over on Music Row, Mama and Daddy were there; first time I got to sing on the Grand Ole Opry, Mama and Daddy were there. They were with me every step of the way.” Reba stayed in Oklahoma by her father’s side on the night of her induction. A former three-time world champion steer roper, Clark was born in 1927.
