Rebecca Schuman nailed it in this article: high Ed has become corporations. I confess my syllabus is 15 pages long, explaining steps for every workshops in great details that are followed through with religious fervor, and still, Ive been constantly condemned as chaotic, disorderly, therefore, a bad teacher, by the administrators who dont teach, who only search for a few complaints from the student evaluations with a magnifying glass while bypassing all the raving evaluations on my teaching. How can we teach independent and creative thinking while our mind and limbs are so tightly bound with all the invisible ropes?
