Rebuild Christchurch · This was a comment on the website on the story by NZ Herald relating to the housing crisis. The comment below left by Janet absolutely broke my heart. Have a read this is what our friends and neighbours are having to deal with at times all behind a strong smile.. Janet J • 4 days ago 2.5 years ago I payed $350 for the family home. Myself (solo mum) and my 4 boys. I now pay $600 - I cant find anything else to move into. Noone will take a solo mother working part time with 4 boys. I get the maximum $60 rental suppliment from WINZ I work part time when I can fit around the children. I have less than $100 a week to pay for EVERYTHING ELSE! My kids are the ones that are missing out. I can live without but my kids have no opportunities. WINZ said I should move to Blenheim where I can get a cheaper house. But Christchurch is home, its where my kids at least have friends and we have a network of others like me to support us. Should I leave my home, the place I love? Can I cry because I do everytime my kids say they are hungry. I dont want anything, no handouts, I just want to be able to afford a home in our home town for my children. But Mr Brownlee said there is no crisis.
