Recap for BBA Games for Wednesday 23 October: Round 1 continued on Wednesday night with another good turn out by with team supporters receiving an entertaining couple of games. At 8:00 pm saw Sinclair’s Fitness take on ANZ. This game was played at a furious pace with the ball moving from one to other in a blink of the eye. Skill level was extremely high by both teams and the final score reflected this. By the end of the 1st quarter Sinclair’s Fitness led by 8 points on the back of some aggressive plays by Jordan Hargraves 10 points. Josh Cox led the way with 5 points for ANZ. At half time it was clear that ANZ had some work to do in order to close the gap which had opened up with a number of players scoring for Sinclair’s Fitness, none more impressive than Adrian Guisti’s 13 points, nailing three 3 pointers, a turn over layup and a 10 foot base line jumper. ANZ had plenty of scoring opportunities in the 2nd quarter but could not get the ball to drop through the hoop, only managing 9 point for the quarter. They were led by Steve Cox with 5 points. End of the 3rd saw ANZ regain their composure and put up an impressive scoring display with 18 points led by Hayden Steele 6 points and Josh Cox, Steve Cox and Damien Lowe with 4 points each. At 9:00 pm we saw ZOT up against Daniel Riemers Builders. Again the teams were well supported and this was evident with cheers when each team scored. This game was not as frantic and fast paced as the first game but none the less it was just as entertaining. ZOT had a new line up this year with the exception of Elvio Gesiotto, Jason Gesiotto and Matthew Russell. Despite the team getting a feel for each other ZOT still put in a respectable effort despite going down to Daniel Riemers Builders at the final buzzer. The 1st quarter saw DRB score the first 6 points and looked more composed than ZOT who missed their shots although they were good scoring opportunities. Eventually ZOT opened up and started scoring pulling back DMR and both closed out the quarter trading buckets with both teams on 13 points. ZOT was led by Matt Russell 5 points and Jason Gesiotto 4 points. The 2nd quarter was all DRB as they went on tear in this quarter and capitalised on every shot whereby ZOT failed to hit the target in the paint and opted to spread the floor looking for 3 point shot opportunities which never hit their mark to make matters worse play maker Matt Russell went down from a rolled ankle and never returned to the game. DRB really showed their class in this quarter hitting receivers under the basket numerous time and at the half time break had opened up an 11 point lead. Fraser Shade 5 points and Hamish Petit 2 points led the way for ZOT. DRB had multiple scorers but were led by Samuel Youl 6 points and Jacob Martinovich 3 points. Going into the 3rd quarter it was expected that DRB would increase their lead but ZOT started to get hot and made some crucial shots accompanied by some great defence limiting DRB to 12 points for the quarter. Fraser Shade showed what he is capable of scoring 10 points braking down defence of the dribble and scoring at will, he was assisted by Ben Fletcher, Hamish Petit 3 points each and Elvio Gesiotto 2 points. For DRB Samuel Youl and Jacob Martinovich 4 points each. The final quarter again belonged to DRB as they upped the pace and ran away with numerous fast break points which everyone wanted to be involved in. Despite trying to get back on defence ZOT were unable to keep up with DRB’s young legs. The Scores reflected this with ZOT only scoring 6 points in the final quarter to DRB 14. Final score: Daniel Riemers Builders 57 to ZOT 44. Top scorers: • Daniel Riemers Builders – Samuel Youl 22, Jacob Martinovich 9 • ZOT – Fraser Shade 22, Hamish Petit 8.
