Recap of todays ASMFC Summer Meeting: The long and short of it - TopicsExpress

Recap of todays ASMFC Summer Meeting: The long and short of it is that there were no major revelations from todays meeting. Some of the options were eliminated and there were two new harvest reductions that will be included in the Draft Addendum: 1@30 and 1@32. The States around the Chesapeake tried unsuccessfully to have their own reference points established but they were voted down. As was stressed on a few occasions during todays meeting...all of the options presented have only a 50% chance of hitting the harvest reduction targets. What was encouraging was that it was shown that utilizing the one year reduction (versus the 3 year) will help the SSB rebound faster. So what will happen now is the Addendum will be published and there will be a period for Public Comment where John Q Public will have an opportunity to let their thoughts be known. They will be working on the calendar for the public meetings. Anyone else that listened in or attended the meeting that has more details to add...please do. More info to follow.
